The world’s first self-driving big rig

So it's not getting as much 'hoopla' as when Google debuted its self-driving car last year but this semi-autonomous truck called the 'Inspiration' by American truck company, Freightliner, is still something to talk about.

It is the first licensed semi-autonomous commercial truck that is allowed to operate on public roads in Nevada.

It works a bit like a plane's autopilot system: the truck is able to drive itself at high speeds, once the driver gets the rig on the highway. Cameras are used to make sure it stays within its lane and doesn't get too close to the vehicle in front of it. The driver can take control of the rig at any time.
