1969 Vietnam Meal Combat Individual C Ration Spaghetti Vintage MRE Review Oldest War Food

Fascinating stuff. Ever wanted to know what those poor soldiers ate or what their meals really looked like way back when? You know, those meals issued by the United States Armed Forces from around the late 1950s? Well check out this 1969 C-ration meal: spaghetti with ground meat, that you can almost smell. (Barf). These can meals were eventually replaced by those Meal, Ready-to-Eat (or MRE as they were more commonly known as), and thank goodness too since these cans seemed to have taken FOREVER to open...

Check out this full review of a Vietnam War MCI or "C Ration"! This is the food US soldiers ate when deployed in the Vietnam War. Simple, much like an MRE but the meals were in cans. They used to have cigarettes in Rations until 1972. This one here turned out to be in pretty bad shape except the cigarettes.

Warning: Gross and Dangerous! A lot of people have requested that we recreate this famous challenge. Gav and Dan thought about it for a while and were eventually able to cobble it together. It left Dan's voice a little husky, but shucks... the footage looks amazing.

These are 'longevity noodles' — a delicious Chinese dish that's eaten for good luck

Interesting. Never heard of these noodles before... or should we say a NOODLE, because it's not many noodles but one long, continuous noodle - that we wish we could eat right now...

Time Out ranked Xi'an Famous Foods the second-best Chinese restaurant in the US.
We were invited into their kitchen, where David Shi, the founder and chef, demonstrated how to make "longevity noodles," a hand-pulled noodle that is one long noodle. It's a sign of good fortune and good luck to eat, but be careful not to cut or break it.

Video of Feeding Frenzy by Chinese tourists in Thailand Restaurant Goes Viral

Hey! That looks just like us around the dinner table when nobody's filming.
This viral video, which was actually taken 2 years ago, shows a group of frenzied Chinese tourists using plates as shovels to gather shrimp at a hotel buffet in Thailand. But that's not the only thing that irked everyone. It was the left over waste of food afterwards (see tweet after video)...

Taste the translation

Interesting - yet not surprising. Translation service ElaN Languages, translated a Japanese recipe using Google Translate vs their ElaN Languages human translators...

"Taste the Translation." The project's video shows a chef cooking the same Japanese recipe as translated by ElaN's team of human experts vs. Google Translate's automated results. From the outset, Google's version shows its faults, which only get more challenging for the chef—and especially for the taste testers.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Food Waste (HBO)

"We love food in America, as you would know if you ever turn on a tv set," says John Oliver in the first part of his opening line. Then he shows a whole slew of tv ads depicting food promotions from various restaurants - 'all you can eat pancakes', 'all you can eat wings', and "everyone's favourite - 'endless shrimp is back..'" - you get the picture. But what we didn't get was the incredible food waste - 40% of all the food produced in the United States, never gets eaten!...

Americans Try Surströmming (The Smelliest Food In The World)

Sur what? Fermented herring? Ugh, we can just imagine how much it stinks! But does it taste good? Well, these guys weren't too impress as you'll see. By the way, the Swedes weren't too happy about this vid by BuzzFeedVideo, as a fermented herring expert has expressed outrage saying this was an “insult to the Swedish people and Swedish culture”. Isn't it any wonder, with such words as “sewage”, “baby diaper”, and “dead body” describing the smell upon opening...

Fermented herring expert Ruben Madsen is incensed.
“Never, ever should surströmming be served like that,” he told The Local.
“It must always be stored in a cool environment. If it is stored in a warm place, then the lactic acid destroys the proteins and there is no fish left inside the can. In the film, there's just a mess inside.”
All this, he says, is explained clearly on the label of the can in English. - thelocal.se
