‘Blood Moon’: Total lunar eclipse over US (NASA STREAM)

In a brief total eclipse best visible from the western part of the United States, the moon passed through the Earth’s shadow and turned blood-red in the early hours of the morning on Saturday...

It will be the third in a series of four total lunar eclipses, or a “tetrad,” that began in mid-April last year. The second occurred in October 2014, and the last will be on September 28 this year. Tetrads are very rare: only seven more are expected by the year 2100. - rt
