A video of a street kid, known only by his first name Gerald, seemingly answering square root problems asked in succession by a group of students, whose voices are heard in the background, has gone viral on the Internet.
In the video, Gerald answers immediately after every question, starting from the square root of 4, 81, 169 and 441. When asked for the square root of 888, he paused to think and asked, “Eight hundred ano?”
“Eight hundred eighty-eight,” answered by one student.
“Perfect square ba ‘yon? Wala, hindi siya perfect square!” Gerald replied, followed by a burst of laughter from the group of students.
The little math wiz answered as if he knew and understood square roots very well. He even knows that the roots can be a positive or a negative, and he is also aware of imaginary numbers. Read more.
