Now the video has caused resentment over its sexist depiction of female officers in bikini with one in particular who was filmed tanning on the beach, and sometimes wearing a badge stuck to her bikini.
According to Lt. Javier Ortiz, two years ago when he asked then police chief Manuel Orosa about the video, he was told that it was for 'recruitment purposes'.
The Miami Herald's David Smiley has since talked to the former Miami police chief who said the video was not a recruiting video and that Entertainment Dynamix donated $40K to Miami Police Athletic League in exchange for city involvement.
'They were here for about three days,' Orosa told the Miami Herald. 'They shot some scenes with different officers and they packaged a six minute sizzler reel to sell it to the networks.'
Orosa retired in December, and current replacement, Chief Rodolfo Llanes, says he didn't even know the trailer existed until Ortiz showed him on Monday and stated, “That’s not the image of the Miami Police Department I want to portray,” and mentioned he was going to speak to an attorney. Since then, several versions of the trailer on YouTube have been made private.
