Incredible human-like robots in China

Sorry. It's just too creepy for us. Maybe it's something we still have to get used to...

The University of Science and Technology of China spent three years creating two interactive robots that look, act, and sound like regular humans.

Robert Full: The secrets of nature's grossest creatures, channeled into robots

Fascinating! Think of the possibilities of these cockroach-inspired robots. We didn't even realize how flexible and agile cockroaches were!...

How can robots learn to stabilize on rough terrain, walk upside down, do gymnastic maneuvers in air and run into walls without harming themselves? Robert Full takes a look at the incredible body of the cockroach to show what it can teach robotics engineers.

MIT cheetah robot lands the running jump

One small step for mankind, one giant leap for robots... Back in September we featured the Robotic Cheetah that could run, well, just like a real cheetah. Now those fine folks over at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have 'programmed' this robotic cheetah to successfully jump and land over objects...

Introducing WildCat

Whoa!  More robots!  This one though is more heavy duty!!!  Watch out!

WildCat is a four-legged robot being developed to run fast on all types of terrain. So far WildCat has run at about 16 mph on flat terrain using bounding and galloping gaits. The video shows WildCat's best performance so far. WildCat is being developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA's M3 program. For more information about WIldCat visit our website at www.BostonDynamics.com.

Robotic insects make first controlled flight

So that's what those guys over at Harvard have been up to for the last decade, lol...

The demonstration of the first controlled flight of an insect-sized robot is the culmination of more than a decade's work, led by researchers at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard. Half the size of a paperclip, weighing less than a tenth of a gram, the robot was inspired by the biology of a fly, with submillimeter-scale anatomy and two wafer-thin wings that flap almost invisibly, 120 times per second. Dynamic Robot Manipulation

Whoa!  This is one scary looking robot dog from Boston Dynamics.  Watch how this powerful robot can toss heavy objects!

BigDog handles heavy objects. The goal is to use the strength of the legs and torso to help power motions of the arm. This sort of dynamic, whole-body approach to manipulation is used routinely by human athletes and will enhance the performance of advanced robots. Boston Dynamics is developing the control and actuation techniques needed for dynamic manipulation with funding from the Army Research Laboratory's RCTA program.
