Gorilla grabs child who's fallen into habitat at Cincinnati Zoo - Gorilla shot and killed

We're sure you've all heard about this story by now but we just don't get it. How does a child fall into such an enclosure?  Well according to news source, the boy crawled through a barrier and fell an estimated 10 to 12 feet into the moat - but surprisingly and fortunately, was not seriously injured by the fall. Too bad the gorilla had to die but they had no choice other than to shoot it...

The decision to shoot Harambe instead of tranquilizing was made in the interest of the boy's safety, Maynard said.
"In an agitated situation, it may take quite a while for the tranquilizer to take effect," he explained, "At the instant he would be hit, he would have a dramatic response. You don't hit him and he falls over." - Source

Calgary Zoo’s New Baby Gorilla Has Arrived!

Oh my! Look at them both. How beautiful!...

Mother and baby doing just fine (Video snapshot)

After months of waiting, the Calgary Zoo is thrilled to announce that they have a new baby Western Lowland gorilla!

New mom Kioja went into labor in the evening of Wednesday, March 9, and gave birth at approximately 9:30 p.m. With our staff keeping a 24-hour watch on the proceedings, we are pleased to say that so far Kioja has been showing consistent signs of being a great mother.

After giving birth she immediately scooped up her new little one and has been carrying the baby with her as she moves about her habitat, resting with it on her chest.

The zookeepers were heartened to see signs of the baby nursing, as well as Kioja showing it affection and checking on it consistently.

Meet Koko the Gorilla's New Kittens

Aaaw. Koko, the Gorilla famous for her knowledge of American Sign Language, always wanted a REAL baby, now she has two - in the form of kittens! We've had Koko on before (watch her here responding to a sad movie), but this recent and adorable video of her getting her birthday wish was really a joy to watch and has been viewed over 4M times already...

Koko got her birthday wish this July 4th — not only did one kitten come to visit, but a whole litter. Koko fell in love with one, and the other fell in love with her. Koko has adopted these two kittens into her family, and it has energized her world.
Not only have Koko's maternal and play instincts kicked in, but she is signing more to her caregivers and generating new content everyday that can be used by The Gorilla Foundation to create empathy fro great apes. This can have significant benefits to both endangered free-living great apes and those in captive environments, by encouraging the development of 2-way communication with their caregivers (which Koko has had since she was a baby).

He showed a gorilla photos of other gorillas on his phone. Watch the gorilla's reaction!

Interesting. Another example of how gorillas' mannerisms are so much like ours. You can see this gorilla was clearly interested in the photos - especially near the end, lol...

There has been concern about the habitat and happiness of this gorilla. Please note that this gorilla (I believe he is named Jelani) is housed in an award winning 4 acre gorilla sanctuary in the Louisville Zoo. He is a Western Lowland Gorilla, a species classified as "critically endangered" by the I.U.C.N.
The Louisville Zoo works hard to provide Jelani and his group with great nutrition, a stimulating and wide open environment, medicine and a chance and hopefully through awareness and captive breeding they'll help move this beautiful species off that endangered list.
If you feel sad or moved by this video, then do some research and see how you can help: http://louisvillezoo.org/a-gorilla-sa...

Meet SHABANI, the Most HANDSOME Gorilla Ever That's Wooing the Females of Japan

We have to admit, he's one handsome looking fella... uh, gorilla. Just look at that face thinking deep thoughts. He almost looks human. It's those eyes! He'd probably look great in a suit too!

Video snapshot
This Australian-raised gorilla who was born in the Netherlands, is capturing the hearts of female zoo-goers in Japan with his handsome good looks and his confident poses, dubbing him an “ikemen”, or “good-looking man”.

When a Silverback attacks.

Whoa! That gorilla actually shattered the glass! We had to slow it down a bit to see it again. We thought this gorilla attacking was just a random occurrence but apparently it's happened before. According to The Blaze, it all happened shortly after a little girl pounded on her chest in front of the gorilla at a Nebraska zoo. This (shorther version) viral vid has over 10M views already and the longer version can also be seen below...

The family's reaction 9 secs into the vid is reflected on the glass:

The individual who uploaded the video described the incident on Reddit as “a three inch piece of glass between life & death.” According to the person, the scene unfolded Thursday at the Henry Doorly Zoo.
Shortly before this we were telling the kids they could not break it [the glass]. They will never believe us again,” the individual wrote. - theblaze
