Sacramento Is About to Have the Most High-Tech Basketball Stadium

One hundred percent solar powered? A Wi-Fi network that can "handle over 500,000 Snapchat posts per second"? Wow. Wonder why Sacramento, California though? Well, as quoted from recode:
Just over two years ago, former tech CEO and then-Warriors minority owner Vivek Ranadivé purchased the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, ending a long tug-of-war that almost resulted in the team’s relocation to Seattle. As part of the deal, Ranadivé promised the NBA he’d build the Kings a new stadium in Sacramento before the 2017 NBA season.
When the new Kings basketball stadium is completed this fall, they hope it’ll be so outrageously technologically advanced that it will even wow fans from Silicon Valley.

Whale Gives Birth Next to Whale Watching Boat Off Dana Point

Awesome. She squirted out that baby and then they both just kept on going - even though the newborn didn't know how to swim...

Whale watchers had a breathtaking encounter today off the coast of Dana Point, California, when they witnessed a rarely seen False Killer Whale giving birth.
Passengers aboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari’s catamaran watched in awe as members of a pod containing around 40 false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens),came up to port side of the boat and pushed against it. There was a sudden burst of blood and newborn calf popped out! The unexpected birth occurred in about 80 feet water.
Captain Tom Southern, who witnessed the remarkable event, said “the whole group huddled around the calf, and they spent the next 10 to 12 minutes taking turns pushing the calf to the surface while the newborn learned how to swim”.

Watch: Massive Gas Leak in California Revealed in Infrared Footage

And this has been going on for over 2 months already? Scary...

Infrared footage captured by Earthworks shows the release of methane gas from a leak at the Aliso Canyon Underground Storage Field in Los Angeles County. First detected on October 23, 2015, the leak has spewed more than 4.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas into the atmosphere. Southern California Gas Company, which owns the storage facility, doesn't expect crews to be able to stop the leak before February. In the meantime, thousands of area residents have been relocated to temporary housing. The cause of the leak is under investigation. Aliso Canyon is the largest methane storage facility on the West Coast, but there are 333 similar natural gas storage locations across the U.S.

This French bulldog might be tiny but it didn't stop him from chasing these two 100 lb- bears off this property in California...

Ominous sign? Or sign of the times? This California lake which people were fishing from last Saturday, "drained like a bathtub" overnight killing thousands of fish...

This shot was taken on Sept 13th morning sometime. It was taken by my husband. It's my understanding that this was the last little bit of water. Unusual? A small amount of water was still spilling through the gate. - Tracy Keelan

California drought: How officials are innovating in water conservation

Very fascinating to learn how California officials are trying to conserve water using black plastic 'shade' balls. These balls are used to cut down on water evaporation from the Los Angeles reservoirs just by floating atop of the water. Each ball cost .36cents - total cost said to be around $34M!!...

Now let's watch those balls rolling into the water again...

Phys Ed Teacher Drags 14 Year Old Girl Forcefully into Pool - Denny Peterson - California

This 8-month-old vid taken in Stockton, California of gym teacher Denny Peterson dragging a 14-year-old girl unwillingly into a pool is gaining viral traction again with over 6M views...

According to the lawyer representing the girl and her family, Attorney Gilbert Somera, "No means no and stop means stop. This isn't a situation where she's attacking a teacher and he's defending himself," he told News 10.

Somera said the whole event started after teen refused to get into the pool because she had had her hair styled that morning for an event that night.

Instead of academically punishing her, as he could have, Peterson used brute force, he said.

Fire in Cajon Pass Shuts Down 15 Freeway + DRONES Near WildFires ARE NOT ALLOWED!

A lot of vids (and tweets) coming out on the Cajon Pass fire on Interstate 15 Freeway in San Bernardino County, California which started on Friday and is now a 3,500-acre brush fire that's been moving rapidly across the area, damaging several homes and threatening about 50 others after jumping the Freeway.

The fire forced the closure of part of the major highway and multiple vehicles were destroyed. 50 to 75 vehicles were said to be left abandoned on the freeway...

Meanwhile...

Drones have forced the landing of planes deployed to fight the so-called North Fire, so much so that San Bernardino’s fire department had to tweet out a poster from the US Forest Service reminding drone operators not to fly near firefighting operations.

According to nbclosangeles:

All air units not only pulled back from the fire because of the drones, but all five were forced to touch back down at the airport in San Bernardino after jettisoning their loads, John Miller of the U.S. Forest Service said.

"It can kill our firefighters in the air ... They can strike one of these things and one of our aircraft could go down, killing the firefighters in the air. This is serious to us. It is a serious, not only life threat, not only to our firefighters in the air, but when we look at the vehicles that were overrun by fire, it was definitely a life-safety threat to the motorists on Interstate 15," said John Miller of U.S. Forest Service.

Five drones were initially spotted over the fire, which consumed five homes and more than a dozen cars as motorists frantically fled on foot through the Cajon Pass.

Two drones actually gave chase to air units, and the incident delayed response by about 15 to 20 minutes, according to Battalion Chief Marc Peebles of San Bernardino County Fire Department.

When asked if the delay contributed to the fire jumping the 15 Freeway, Peebles said “It definitely contributed to it.”

Cute, Tiny Octopus Discovered. Now They Want to Call it 'Adorabilis'

If you haven't heard by now, in the scientific world, a cute little octopus was discovered. Actually, he was discovered a while back but now they want to name it something adorable... say, for instance, Opisthoteuthis adorabilis  Everyone's saying this pink, fist-sized octopus is a cross between the ghost from the Pac-Man video game and a Pokemon creature. What do you think?

Would you believe scientists have been collecting samples of this type of a flapjack octopus since 1990, yet little is still known about them - probably because they live between 200 and 600 metres down deep into the waters where temps are only a mere 6 degrees Celsius. Watch the video below to learn more...

Horse Passing Gas

Ok. So it doesn't sound too exciting but it's the way that he does that's cute!

Meet Archy the horse. He has beaten all the odds after being pulled from the wild, a trip to the slaughter mill, being rescued and starved, and rescued again. Now he lives at the "Rocking Horse Ranch" in El Cajon, California, a non-profit organization that adopts and rescues large animals from abuse and neglect. Archy has a intestinal issue and cannot pass gas normally like other horses can. He has to roll around on the ground to do it...
